Re: Transfer iTunes Music from iMac to Pc Laptop
Wed, May 9, 2007 - 3:31 PMWhy not? They are just files.
First you need to connect the two computers or get a hard drive to use between them or something.
Then drag and drop the folder
Users >(YOU)>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music
Into the open iTunes window on the PC. If there is DRM purchased music, then you will have to register that computer to use those files.
Done.

Re: Transfer iTunes Music from iMac to Pc Laptop
Thu, May 10, 2007 - 12:11 AMAbsolutely you can. Just copy the data over via your favorite method and you should be able to drag them right into iTunes. Files purchased from the iTunes Store will need authorization, but iTunes will ask you for that. -

Re: Transfer iTunes Music from iMac to Pc Laptop
Thu, May 10, 2007 - 11:15 AM"via my favorite method" means there are LOT of ways to copy your songs.
The two easiest would be:
* burn a data CD or DVD containing the tunes. Make sure you burn an ISO9660 disc (or other Windows-compatible format)
* use a thumb drive, such as a SanDisk Cruzer
You could also do more complex methods, such as filesharing over a network.

Re: Transfer iTunes Music from iMac to Pc Laptop
Thu, May 10, 2007 - 8:01 AMOne good way to do it is to burn CDs or DVDs of your music. But treat the music like data, not like music. What I mean is, either copy your itunes folder (or part of your itunes folder) to disks like you would if you were backing up or send any other data files. Or, in your iTunes Prefs, under Adanced, select Burning, and then select Data CD or DVD.
Burning all of your music to disk this way takes less time and disks than if you were making tradition CDs or even MP3 CDs, but more time than some other methodes of file transfer. The other benefit, though, is that you get a back up of your iTunes. Also, this way, you are not converting from one kind of musical compression to another, so you do not lose anything.
Once your data disks are ready, you can just pop them into the laptop, and drap the files to iTunes. All of your meta data and everything will remain intact. This will not transfer your playlists. You will have to recreate them on the new machine. -

Re: damn, that was a lot of typos
Thu, May 10, 2007 - 10:25 AMok. ok. ok. i think i have an idea. if i can burn the music to cds (as music) i can then just import the music into m iTunes on the laptop, no? the same way i import music now?
i want use the ipod/laptop for music at my wedding, so i am thinking i can just burn the playlist to cds and then import it to the laptop.
does that makes sense? -

Re: damn, that was a lot of typos
Thu, May 10, 2007 - 11:11 AMno to .mac. that's too much data to send over .mac.
and you're misunderstanding the previous post. burn your playlist as a DATA disc (CD or DVD) and you can import them on the PC without having to re-encode or re-rip them. Not only will it save on quality (as opposed to burning music cds) but it will save enormously on time, AND on the number of discs it takes. -

Thu, May 10, 2007 - 2:01 PMif i can burn the music to cds (as music)
this is NOT reccomended - as you will be transcoding the files twice!!!!!
burn them as DATA files!

There's many other, less wasteful methods.
