Odd recent Firefox actions

Lately, I'll be on a web page only to have it bounce back to the previously viewed page. My mouse may be the culprit, but I've never experienced this before with a side-swipe of the very sensitive mouse. Seems like it's traditionally just moved the page I'm on left and right within a browser window that might be smaller than the page. Certainly not OFF that page to the previous.

Only since upgrading to Lion has this happened. Other than the occasional update to Firefox, I can't think anything else new has been added or voluntarily done to cause it.

Hmm. Is it bouncing back or is it just displaying the page caches for tabbing improperly? I've noticed that sort of problem from time to time in Firefox…

I'll just be reading something on a page and AS IF I've hit the back arrow, the last page just pops up, requiring me to hit the forward button to return to what I was doing.

I've experienced that, but I think it was only on Lion that I saw that happen.

I'm really beginning to believe that it's an overly sensitive mouse that the slightest miniscule movement resembling a side swipe sends you back rather than simply trying to move the page from side to side within the browser window as it used to. I never experienced that before Lion.

AHA, and "I'll be damned." FOUND IT.

My very sensitive Mac mouse seems to be the culprit. I just went to my mouse preferences today and discovered that it allows the choice of moving from page to page on a screen (any, I suppose, and not just while in Firefox browser) with side swipes, using optional one- or two-finger swipes. That annoying unintentional bounce-back to previous browser pages was because of microscopic unintentional movements of my one finger on the mouse rather than a true glitch. I re-set the preference for that swipe to using TWO fingers. I'm less likely to regularly have more than one finger on my mouse just out of decades of habit.

The problem I have with this feature is that it behaves as expected for me up and down, but I don't like the left/right implementation. In Firefox, you can do 3-finger swipe up to mimic a keyboard's "Home" button and 3-finger swipe down for "End". But swiping left and right with three fingers activates the browser's back/forward buttons, which is not something I would *ever* want. And the System Pref for the OS turns off all 3-finger swiping support.

There's probably a solution for this, but I've not been sufficiently irked by it to look further yet.
