My BF and I are about to switch over to iPhones... After years of being PalmOS users. I've been hating on MissingSync, and the idea of a device that "just works" is so nice.
My question for you iPhone users:
is MobileMe worth it? How necessary is it for keeping iCal and Address Book in sync across multiple machines?
Thanks!

Re: MobileMe opinions
Tue, November 3, 2009 - 9:26 AMNot necessary but useful. I've been a MobileMe user since the days when Apple offered it free. I even have a family plan, tho no one else in the fam uses it. Since the iPhone tho, it has become even more useful for synching everything. PLUS, with the 'Where's my iPhone' feature (that's only available via MobileMe), I get even more value out of it (tho, fortunately, I haven't had to use it).
All in all, I like being a MobileMe subscriber. There may be cheaper ways to go. I kinda think of it as an 'Apple tax with benefits'.
Glad your switching! -

Re: MobileMe opinions
Tue, November 3, 2009 - 10:00 AMI like it. I have an account and have set up my GF's iPhone so the calendar syncs. In iCal we have several calendars (my Home, hers, work, basketball, etc.). Works great. Also, if, like me, you have a network of Macs at home, you can remote desktop easily between them if they are all connected with the same MobileMe account.

Re: MobileMe opinions
Tue, November 3, 2009 - 10:13 AMI use Google Calendar / Gmail to keep the calendar & contacts in sync, but I still have MobileMe for the bookmark syncing and find my iPhone.
iTunes sync of calendars and contacts is near flawless tho, so you may find Mme. unnecessary -- it only adds findmyiphone and over the air syncing. There's a 60 day free trial of Mme, so if you're on the fence... -

Re: MobileMe opinions
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 12:26 PMI like it except for the HORRIBLE web interface for getting your mail. Its simply the worst and I hate it. I have to use it at work because firewall prevent a normal SMTP client.
If you don't have to use the web interface, mobile me is great.

Re: MobileMe opinions
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 4:24 PMIf you have .mac (sorry, but I still call it that) and mail.app, you don't need to use the webmail crapola. Mail.app has a Finderish gui.
Also, I like the iDisk feature. -

Re: MobileMe opinions
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 4:29 PMAs the person said, they're using the webmail aspect from work, where their IT folks have prohibited SMTP communications. Of course, a possible workaround would be to use a GMail account to check your MobileMe mail. But that may be more trouble than it's worth. -
