There are a few people that send me email that I am unable to reply to
When I attempt to reply, mail.app flashes up a screen asking me to select another outgoing server.
of course, none of the other servers in the list work.
I am able to send those people new email, but not able to reply to their emails.
I suspect that there is something in the headers of the emails that they are sending me that is mucking up the works.
Funny, the companies whose emails I cannot reply to are both web dev companies that I work with.
I AM able to reply to the vast majority of email I receive.
thoughts?
thanks,
Jake
Stosher, don't bother suggesting that I sneaker net a reply

Re: Yet another Mail issue
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 11:41 AMDon't suppose this is a recent issue?
Haven't got an Email from anyone using the new Windows OS yet myself.
I've noticed that some Emails, I can reply to, but can't respond to individual lines in the Email. Windows seems to Group the Email into a frame that can not be broken.
Might be a similar type issue.
Kind out what the Web companies use for Email. Might give a clue.
Good Luck

Re: Yet another Mail issue
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 2:19 PMcheck the email addresses that you are replying to? click the blue bubbles in mail and it should pop up with the actual email address. if it is malformed, your email server should reject the message when you try to send.
also check your entries for these peps in your address book. make sure their email addresses are correct.
and finally, in mail there is Window > Previous Recipients that will list all the email address it thinks you have gotten mail from.
they may be being *creative* in how they list their outgoing email addresses. -

I check all of the things you suggested and everything looked fine
Not sure what Previous Recipients had to offer, but I looked, and one of the addresses in question was in there and it looked okeedokee

Re: Yet another Mail issue
Thu, October 29, 2009 - 9:15 PMIt sounds like you might have have multiple email accounts, and I suspect there might be a problem when you send email from one of them. The reason I think this might be the case is that Mail will normally send replies from the address the original message was sent to, but sends completely new messages from the default account if you don't specify a different account. When you compose a new message there should be a pull-down "From:" menu just below the "Subject:" field that let's you choose the address from which you want to send that message. I'd suggest sending test messages from each of your accounts and see if they all work. I suspect that one of them isn't working, and that it's the same address those few people are using to send you mail (just a guess, but I think it's plausible). Different mail providers have different policies on whether or not they'll allow you to send messages with a sending address that's different than the one they provide, so that can be a complicating factor. If one of your outgoing servers will allow you to sent from any your accounts, then you can tell Mail to always use that server.
Good luck!
