hey,
wondering if anyone can help.
i want to create a custom CDG file on my mac, and burn it to disc. a CDG file is the music-with-embedded-graphics file that professional karaoke machines use.
i DO NOT want to play karaoke songs on my mac, like these do:
ktunes.com/
www.scriptsoftware.com/istar/
those DO NOT allow one to syncronize lyrics to an audio file and then rip a CDG file from that.
this app DOES DO that, BUT it is for the PC:
www.powerkaraoke.com/src/pro...ator.php
i can't seem to find any app for the MAC that does what that app can do on the PC.
further, i am trying to figure out whether the burner that came with my PowerBook can write a CDG disc, or whether i need something else.
much of what i have found over the internet says that only Plextor drives are reliable, but i know it is a PC world out there, and maybe the info is limited on the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-845E that comes with the PowerBook.
does anyone know anything about this stuff?
or know where i can go to find out?
thanks!

i love how karaoke has been huge in the US for well over a decade, yet when i asked people at an apple store, they were clueless about any apps for the mac, or whether i could burn a CD+G disc with the powerbook burner ... -

Re: Karaoke Software
Thu, September 28, 2006 - 5:29 PMIf you have a newer Intel Mac, Apple provides an app called Bootcamp that will allow you to partition your HD and run Windows (and windows apps) on the Mac while being able to boot and run OSX on the other partition. -

Thu, September 28, 2006 - 9:18 PMthanks, i just looked that up and saw that.
no, i don't have an intel mac.
i suppose this is why people say the mac is so limited. -

Re: Karaoke Software
Thu, September 28, 2006 - 10:23 PMPeople only say that when they're looking for software that few people utilize. IN all the years I've been setting up and maintaining computers, you're the first who's needed CD+G burning software.
It seems that kTunes is supposed to be able to burn CD+G, not just play them.

Re: Karaoke Software
Sat, September 30, 2006 - 12:49 PMFunny, but when I would go to my tech writing classes and run RoboHelp and Framemaker on my Pismo–then use Keynote to make a killer presentation with embedded flash plus video and audio files, while listening to live internet radio via my Bluetooth headset–nobody in the class could duplicate my efforts because my limited (4 year old Pismo) mac could do things their brand new Sony Vaios and HP's could not.

i am a died in the wool mac user too, so i don't need the "my dad can beat up your dad" business.
what i need is an app for the much vaunted mac that will **author** CDG files, not just burn them, Jory.
and i'm hardly going to buy some 250 dollar software like virtual pc when i could just borrow a friend's pc for this job.

Re: Karaoke Software
Mon, February 11, 2008 - 8:32 PMyeah, kJams can rip, mix and burn, but it won't author. however, "kJams Producer" is going to be able to author.
www.kjams.com/wiki/Producer
it's not there yet but if you want on the beta then swing by the web site and shoot me an email. -

Tue, February 12, 2008 - 10:03 AMThis is the reason I am now going to get rid of my mac and switch the pc. It obviously shows Steve Jobs' disregard of karaoke. lol

Tue, February 12, 2008 - 6:51 PMIf someone switches to a PC for this, I expect his Karaoke act will include the song "Feelings" and he will believe that it's a show stopper.
