One last question for today,

I use Safari and have never had any problems with it. Is there any reason to go to Firefox? Is it better/worse, or just personal preference?

    i use both
    it's six of one , 1 / 2 dozen the other
    i prefer Firefox® because i can turn off ' Mail ' easier
and ' Mail ' reminds me too much of ' Outlook Distress '
i have to use Safari on my Touch® -- no choice there
    personal preferences

It's mostly personal preference, but if you like to add third party features to your stuff you'll find that there's way more of that kind of thing for Firefox than for Safari. On handy add-on if you're very security conscious is "NoScript". If gives you a ton of control of what pages can run Javascripts, which are one of the more common ways nefarious web sites manipulate your browser and do bad things. Plus, every once in a while you'll stumble across a page that won't work properly in Safari so it's handy to have a different browser around to try.

Camino plays nice with SAP datamining apps like megacorps online payroll and personnel records.

Mainly personal preference, although there are some features in Firefox that I'd really like to see added to Safari. Some of those are:

    * Ability to save open tabs so quitting the browser doesn't mean starting from scratch (especially annoying when installing Adobe software or needing to reboot)

    * The pop-up blocker in Firefox allows you to set exceptions, which is great for sites such as my home banking, which relies on them.

    * I love how Firefox allows me to disallow certain kinds of JavaScript use, such as resizing and moving windows.

There are more, but those are a big deal to me.

I really like Safari 4, but without these features, I've decided after two days of use, that I'm going back to Firefox for most browsing.

Jory: Have you ever noticed the "Add Bookmark for These N Tabs..." item in the "Bookmarks" menu in Safari? It's perhaps not quite as convenient as Firefox, but it does allow you to save all your currently open tabs to a bookmark folder so you can easily return to them. I just discovered this recently, after I'd already installed the Safari 4 beta, so I don't know if it was in the older versions or not, but I've already used it a few times and it's quite handy.

It's a nice idea, but why can't the software do it for me? Why should I have to take the extra steps to resume working where I left off? Just to be clear, I'm not talking about having tabs open for sites I regularly visit, but for sites I've kept open while I'm surfing around and intend to return to within a very short period of time.

For example, I currently have 12 tabs open. Most of those have been open for about a week. If they go longer than that and are something I'm saving to read, I add it to my list of things to read in OmniFocus. Otherwise, I leave it open to use soon.

Thanks for pointing out the feature, though.

Some of the sites I use won't run on Safari .... the control panel to my website won't even talk to Safari. If you don't have any sites not liking Safari .... then use what you like.

I've never liked the way Firefox handles bookmarks. I like Safari's bookmark system better ... personal choice.

    Web 2.0 stuff: Firefox always.
