Handled Air

On a flight from Puerto Rico I pulled out my MB-Pro to do some work. The person sitting next to me pulled out the Air. I have to get one. Have to!

Beware of the restrictions it has!

Thanks. I've got two MB-Pros and I will keep one. My biggest concern is the battery life.

      Cheers!

Yeah. I find the air to be a near-perfect second computer (I have an iMac at home) but I do feel like the battery life is worse than it was on the old iBook (albiet with a new battery) that I used to have.

To date, that's the one compromise on the air that'd I'm remotely conscious of having made. Everything else is all good.

Ars Technica reports two hours and 33 minutes. That's quite disappointing. Especially considering that I have (and use) two batteries for my MB-Pro.

so Battery Life on the Air is short??

and how can you deal without firewire???
    is this an easy transition?

    ipod, isight, hard drives?

trying to figure out if i could be happy moving from mbpro to the air.

The reason why I don't need Firewire is that the Air is my second computer. I also have an iMac which is the real hub of my digitial universe. The MBAir is just my portable typing/surfing station.

It's got a built-in isight, so that's not an issue. Ipods are USB2 now anyway. 10.5 networking is so good that accessing my other drives when I'm at home is a non-issue.

THe biggest single advantage of the air is that - literally - have the time I pick up my bag, witih the Air (and the power supply) in it, I do a double take. "Oh, shit, forgot the computer." But it's in there. It's that light. You really don't notice. And that's great.

But I'm not sure I would recommend it as an only computer. If you have a Time Capsule as your external drive, that works. If you don't have a lot of peripherals ... again. I could maybe see doing it if you pay a lot of attention to the ports you actually use ... my old laptop was an ibook, and I NEVER used more than one port on it.
