On a flight from Puerto Rico I pulled out my MB-Pro to do some work. The person sitting next to me pulled out the Air. I have to get one. Have to!

Mon, April 14, 2008 - 5:57 AMThanks. I've got two MB-Pros and I will keep one. My biggest concern is the battery life.
Cheers! -

Re: Handled Air
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 9:28 AMYeah. I find the air to be a near-perfect second computer (I have an iMac at home) but I do feel like the battery life is worse than it was on the old iBook (albiet with a new battery) that I used to have.
To date, that's the one compromise on the air that'd I'm remotely conscious of having made. Everything else is all good. -

Re: Handled Air
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 2:37 PMthe power consumption of a 4200 RPM HDD vs SSD is negligible.
i noticed a boost (maybe 10%) by replacing my macbook's 5400 RPM HDD with a SSD, but that's expected, since the 5400 consumes so much more power than the 4200.

Re: Handled Air
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 12:56 PMArs Technica reports two hours and 33 minutes. That's quite disappointing. Especially considering that I have (and use) two batteries for my MB-Pro.

Re: Handled Air
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 12:59 PMThe reason why I don't need Firewire is that the Air is my second computer. I also have an iMac which is the real hub of my digitial universe. The MBAir is just my portable typing/surfing station.
It's got a built-in isight, so that's not an issue. Ipods are USB2 now anyway. 10.5 networking is so good that accessing my other drives when I'm at home is a non-issue.
THe biggest single advantage of the air is that - literally - have the time I pick up my bag, witih the Air (and the power supply) in it, I do a double take. "Oh, shit, forgot the computer." But it's in there. It's that light. You really don't notice. And that's great.
But I'm not sure I would recommend it as an only computer. If you have a Time Capsule as your external drive, that works. If you don't have a lot of peripherals ... again. I could maybe see doing it if you pay a lot of attention to the ports you actually use ... my old laptop was an ibook, and I NEVER used more than one port on it.
