Can someone point me to info on how to change themes on the Mac Leopard (10.5.4)? For example how to customize the sound played for incoming e-mail in Mail using a sound clip of my own.

Thanks

the incoming mail sound can be specified in Mail > Preferences > General.

As for general themes.... those all seem to be hacks that run in the background which I refuse to run as they usually cause software conflicts, system instability or tacky appearance.

CandyBar can change the icon resources of most items on the system. That's as far as I go.

Try looking around the forums at macthemes2.net; there hasn't been anything incredibly radical yet, but if you don't like a lot of the default aqua elements you might find something you like there.

Under Leopard, theming requires resources to be manually replaced (vs. using ShapeShifter), so it is "at your own risk" of course.
