  • I have to say that Apple has really eclipsed Linksys in the wireless router arena. The new Airports are much more robust and easier to use than anything I've ever worked with from Linksys.

Personally -- and I know that I'm not the average consumer market here -- I don't see the value add here. Their web interface is "good enough". It's functional, and much much much clearer and easier to use than say netgear or belkin's.

Why would you install software to set up your router?
    • It is interesting to hear this. I was very disappointed with the original Apple routers. I'm glad to hear the new ones work better. I too set my Linksys router up via the web interface -- it was easy enough for anyone who understands routers. I suppose their setup application would be more helpful for someone unfamiliar with how to set one up (one would hope). So, for mom and pop who need a router and don't know much about it, this could be an advantage.

Cuz PC folks don't know how to do anything unless it comes with a Setup Wizard.

Seriously, I agree that devices should be configurable from a browser. That said, given Linksys' proclivity to ship devices that require Windows just because their stupid setup wizard wasn't ported, I'm glad they've finally decided to do something about it. While it isn't necessarily the best solution, at least it's a solution.
