      Adam,
      i do not use it except on my Touch® , and Apple® j u s t updated it y e s t e r d a y . it's an Apple ® reverse hack of Netscape ®
i use Firefox® with out an email client and let my I S P handle all e-mails for spam , trojans , sniffers , crawlers and the like
      Quite frankly , many Microsolth viruses and trojans pass t h r o u g h Apples® and do not affect us
i just took one out using ClamXav® : a shareware virus detector that isolates Winblows viruses on Macs ®
We could care less that there is no I E for Mac any more since 2 0 0 5
      Opera® - Thinderbird® are good alternatives, also
Microsoft® updated all their software for viruses today , too , come to think of it . First Tuesday of the month is when they have to do this

The Beta, for me, was solid as a rock. I especially liked the free plug in called Glims. It made a few minor but valuable improvements, such as being able to change the search engine through a drop-down menu in the search field.

When I changed to the final release, there were a couple of changes that I really liked. The new way it indicates a page is loading and the symbol for quickly adding a tab. When I went to a site I frequently visited, it crashed, and told me that the cause may have been Glims. I thought that was great. it actually identified the problem instead of requiring you to figure it out. I deleted Glims using the developer's removal tool.

Unfortunately, I now, on occasion, still get crashes of the application. Now, however, no reason is given. :(

I'm using it right now. it seems to have a lowered niceness, so it really pulls down the pages better with other apps running. Seems all good with Tribe.

I'm not using the tabs, but it automatically sets your home page to that curved display of most frequent pages. I'm not sold on that one, I was pretty happy with the button bar.

I've been using it since the first beta, and it's great - except for one site... where I order parts for my business. Even if I change the "User agent", there's a glitch when I go to the Checkout page.

I put the tabs back below the address bar and I'm very happy with it.

Apple wasn't exaggerating the Javascript speed improvements. S4 is damned speedy on Javascript heavy pages.

I use the ClickToFlash plug-in with it. It makes the loading of heavy pages super quick.

I have to make sure my users are ready for it. For instance, how to manipulate bookmarks doesn't follow and obvious model to the uninitiated, especially those who are used to much older browsers bookmark editors, etc. But I'm convinced already that it's the way to go as a default browser for Apple.

Are folks seeing all the new ads on tribe in Safari?

They're fairly obnoxious in FF. Wish AdBlock would squelch 'em.

I really like the [show top sites] button at the top left.. Very cool.
And the [show all bookmarks] button as well.
Also, like Tedward mentioned, vids play better. I used to have a problem with selecting the full screen mode, but with the new safari, it appears I can do anything, come back later to the vid, and it will enlarge to full screen without hanging up like it did before.

AdBlock Plus'll squish them if you find the rules they're being generated under and make a rule for it.

I've had a couple of days to test it. Evidently, after the beta version, the tabs remained in the same location I left them in, under the URL address, when I first cranked it up. I visited a couple of sluggish Flash home page sites that I frequent and they opened quickly. As for the great "Top Sites," which first appeared as my browser home page instead of my usual Earthlink page, I had to quickly dig into the "what's new" and "help" pages at Apple. There are too many naughty things I visit to have them pop up if I'm sitting with vanilla folk at my computer.

          So far, I'm happy.

Well, as soon as I sent that and tried to send another post to this tribe, a nasty popped up: While typing a message in a box like this one, I misspelled a word. Right-clicking on it to choose the suggested spelling resulted in the nasty twirling beach ball and required me to force quit Safari twice.

Okay, you can set your topsites to a specific set of pages rather then the top 12 most visited sites. Click the "edit" button and push the "pin" on all the pages you want to appear in topsites. delete the ones you don't. When you get all 12 pinned, there won't be any random appearances.

Best yet, it lets you keep update tabs on several sites at once, but doesn't work as well on tribe and facebook as you might hope.

Using it at work. So far, so good. I use both Safari and Firefox. Safari has less programming bells and whistles than Firefox; it loads much faster than Firefox for me. So, when I want to fly around the net, read news and social network ... Safari. When I'm working in webland and need the power of web 2.0 mojo ... Firefox.

To me, they're almost like apples and oranges.

Upgraded at home .... using Tiger ... slow and annoying. I only use it for some things .... I use Firefox for others.

I've been using it for two days on my new MBP and I do like it. They fixed the new tab drawing issue that arose in v3.2, so it's useable for me again.

    However, I've got two complaints:

    * I hate the new page load status indicator. Bring back the blue bar, as it provided ACTUAL information.

    * Save the state of all my open tabs when I quit, like Firefox does.

The latter is a big gripe for me and one of my favorite reasons for using Firefox. Especially when stuck using the crappy Adobe installers that require me to close my browser when I'm working or when I have to reboot. Or log out after installing some new piece of software (or changing my video card performance).

Both seem like no-brainers to me.

Tack on this complaint. I don't like the refresh button [fixed] inside the URL box. It's on "the wrong side" for me and I can never find it. I liked being able to add it to the toolbar as I saw fit.

I'm going to echo what others are saying. I loved the public beta of Safari 4, and it seemed solid. But since I've updated to the release version, it's prone to crashes, freezes and overall weirdness. I'm sticking with Firefox 3.5 and/or Camino.

Safari 4 is my #3 browser after Firefox and Camino. Some things work in it that don't in Camino but FF has by far more capability.

Camino is a re-build of mozilla in Apple tools. Looks sort of like a Mac interface sort of like Firefox.

I've been using it for a while now. But it seems sluggish at times and I've been moving over to Firefox more and more rather than watch twirling beachballs. Wondering when I'll make a permanent move with Firefox as my preferred browser. It's fast and crisp.

Firefox is my #1 browser on all OSes and has been for a while. I use multiple browsers for a variety of reasons including test since I do software QA so I tend to cruise around and look for new browsers.

What are folks using for a style sheet?

      I'm seeing ads when I really shouldn't.

And for some reason, on Facebook, I tend to get a beach ball followed by a quit.

So how do we save it so Safari recognizes it as a style sheet?

Option-click the link. Put the file in ~/Library/Application Support/. Then select it from the Safari "Use stylesheet" pop-up in Preferences.

Oh my! That style sheet makes a huge difference now. :)

But no matter how many times I tried putting it into ~/Library/Application Support/, Safari would not see it. On my desktop, yes, it saw it. So I decided to stick it into Applications and it recognized it there. So that's where it's staying.

              Thanks, again, jory!

P.S. I noticed before the style sheet, Safari would allow at least one pop-up ad to linger on my desktop unnoticed until I had to switch from Safari to another app. And the other day I clicked on a site and some awful malware began to immediately download onto my Mac some huge .exe program. Will this style sheet detect these pop-ups and malware, or should I get another app or plug-in to do that for me?

Safari doesn't automatically recognize it when it's in Application Support; you have to point Safari to it. I then also make a symlink to it in place of the userContent.css file in my Firefox profile. That way it works for both.

As for pop-ups, I don't know if a stylesheet can prevent those. I use Firefox most of the time, so I rarely run into an pop-ups anymore.
